Different types of rice and how to cook them

  1. Brown rice
    Brown rice is a whole grain rice with only the outer hull removed. The side hulls and bran which remain are rich in protein, thiamine, calcium, magnesium, and fiber. It has a mild, nutty flavor, and is healthier compared to white rice.

    How to cook
    Due to its outer covering, brown rice needs more water and a longer cooking time compared to white rice. Rinse the rice first. Then, use two cups of water for every one cup of rice. Bring to a boil in a pot with a tight lid. Cover and then reduce the heat. Simmer for about 30 minutes.
  2. White rice
    White rice has had its husk, bran, and germ removed. This process allows this type of rice to be stored longer without spoilage.

    How to cook
    Measure one cup of white rice for every 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water. Add to a pot. Bring the water to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until rice is cooked. This takes about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Fried rice
    Fried rice is a Chinese dish of cooked rice that has been mixed with other ingredients such as meat and vegetables, and then stir fried.

    How to cook
    There are different recipes for fried rice. But basically, you heat oil in a pan, sauté the meat and vegetables you wish to mix with the rice,  toss the white rice in, mix well, and season with MAGGI MAGIC SARAP.
  4. Malunggay rice
    Malunggay rice is your choice of steamed rice, whether white or brown, that has been sauted with malunggay leaves.

    How to cook
    Cook rice in a pot as per instructions. Sauté the cooked rice in a flat, wide pan. Add the malunggay leaves, and season with MAGGI MAGIC SARAP. Toss well.
  5. Cauliflower rice
    Cauliflower rice is made by either using a grater or a food processor to transform the vegetable into small pieces.

    How to cook
    Sauté the cauliflower rice in a pan with a bit of oil. Cover until it becomes tender, about 5-8 minutes. Season with MAGGI MAGIC SARAP.
